Traffic & Safety
Traffic and Parking
Drivers are urged to be extra cautious and to watch out for students on their way to and from school. Please obey all California vehicular traffic laws and parking ordinances. The area on Browning Street once zoned for Bus Loading and an area of street parking on Willow Street are now 3 minute Loading and Unloading Zones only. In the mornings, parents should drop off students at the curb and then merge safely into traffic. In the afternoon, we are asking that parents do not pull up to the loading area until they have a visual of their child. Only then should parents pull up to the curb load students and continue on. Please do not park and sit and wait in your cars for students in the loading zones as it creates a traffic jam and parents who see their students then do not have the space to quickly load their students. No parking is allowed in the Bus Loading Zone area. Your cooperation is also needed during dismissal because it is hectic and very dangerous at times. Please do not leave your car unattended in the 3 minute Loading and Unloading Zone or the Bus Loading Zone. The San Diego Police department will issue tickets to these cars. Loma Portal does not have a Safety Patrol due to the young age of our student population. For student safety parents are asked to park on city streets when visiting the school. We realize there is a very limited amount of street parking because we are located in the middle of a residential area; however, even though it may take a few extra minutes, we suggest you park in an area away from the front of the school and walk to the campus to get your child. Please note that the on-site parking area is for staff use only. We must all respect our neighbors when parking in front of their homes. Please do not park across driveways or double-park. Please do not drive into the vehicular driveway to retrieve your child from the playground. A Message from the San Diego Police Department The San Diego Police Department needs your help in keeping your children safe. S.D.P.D. has Juvenile Service Officers who go out to the schools in your community and teach your children how to be safe from strangers and teach them traffic safety. However, our officers have noticed a disregard of the traffic safety rules on the part of parents picking up and dropping off their children at school. We try to teach your children to use the crosswalks/ corners (not cross in the middle of the block), not to walk between parked cars, not to get out of a vehicle in the middle of the street and to be generally safe around the school. S.D.P.D. Juvenile Service Officers are asking that parents help us re-enforce the traffic safety laws with your children by being a good example for them while dropping off and picking up your children at school. We ask that you not double park, not stop your vehicle in the middle of the street to drop off or pick up your children, to be aware of not only your child's safety, but also the safety of all the children. If you have any questions or remarks concerning the safety of your children at school, please contact the school to obtain your school's S.D.P.D. Juvenile Service Officer. Thank you for helping us keep your children safe. |
